Welcome to My Story
My Story is a community podcast project designed to connect the young women of South Salt Lake City, Utah with the senior women in our community. In March 2012 we will begin posting a monthly podcast highlighting amazing women we have met in our visits around our very own neighborhood. Each woman we visit has lead a unique and rich life and has an important story to tell. We would like to share their stories with you.
Our Story
How did the My Story project get started?
The young women of the Wandamere Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints discovered that there were many older widows in our church congregation and community who were lonely and needed companionship. We decided to start to visit one of these women each week in an attempt to bring some friendship and cheer into their lives. The more we visited with these women, the more we realized they were each amazing individuals with unique stories to tell about their life experiences. We were enthralled by tales of trial, sorrow, accomplishment, and joy. We were fascinated hearing about the historical events they experienced first hand. We learned important life lessons and what it means to be a strong, good woman from their life stories.
After several months of visits, we visited one woman who told us of her experiences living in post World War II Germany and of her journey to the United States. We were so captivated by her story that we decided we must visit her again soon to hear more of her incredible life. Unfortunately, our new friend passed away before we were able to visit with her again. The moment we heard of her passing was the moment we decided that the experiences and memories of the women we were meeting were too important to lose. We wanted to remember them and share their life histories with others who would benefit from knowing them as we had. So, the My Story podcast project began.
